First Annual LitCon Conference

On October, the Language Portfolio hosted over 400 educators at the first LitCon16 Igniting a Passion for Reading Conference.  The participants were treated to two keynote addresses from Dr. Steven Layne.  A renowned educator, author and speaker, Dr. Layne entertained, educated and recommended that teachers read what their students are reading in order to ignite a passion for reading.

Throughout the day, participants attended over 50 workshops.  Sylvia Duckworth, an educator and social media celebrity presented on GAFE (Google Apps for Educators) in the FSL classroom, during which she shared how students can use the online platform to create digital stories with music and voice as a strategy to improve proficiency and confidence with French.  Her second session was on how students can be creative with Google tools.

Inspired by the conference, participants took Dr. Layne's notion of "Hot Reads" back to their own school communities.  Twitter accounts continue to be populated by visuals of quality texts for students to read.
